River Bend Retirement Community

River Bend is an Independent Retirement Community for 55+ residents that are still active and want to maintain their independence. "It offers the finest retirement living in a resort community," (www.retirementresorts.org.)

River Bend covers 20 acres and is conveniently located less than five minutes from Carlsbad's hot spots.  "You can't beat this location" is a most common phrase heard by visitors.  Within 60 minutes of major airports, Carlsbad is a step-removed from the big city hustle and bustle where one can enjoy a much slower paced life-style.

River Bend consists of beautifully appointed single-family homes ranging from 1,727 sq. ft. to 2,040 sq. ft. and Patio Homes with 1,250 sq. ft. of living space. All are complete with spacious 2-car garages. The community provides lovely landscaping featuring meandering streams, waterfalls and garden paths where hummingbirds and butterflies gather. Our residents are ready to kick up their heels and enjoy life while management fully maintains the home and landscaping, leaving plenty of time to swim in the heated indoor pool or stroll along the Pecos River a block away.

Golfers love the Municipal Golf Course located next door along the river with exceptionally low green fees.  Many of the residents enjoy driving their golf carts right up to the course and are able to play year-round with the mild Southeastern New Mexico climate.  Or hiking in the nearby Guadalupe Mountains and fishing and boating on the river.  One thing about it, there's plenty to do in Carlsbad!

A perfect climate to live in and wonderful year-round activities, Carlsbad is a progressive community -- a perfect retirement location.  It boasts a newly acquired designation by AARP as one of only 250 "Age-Friendly" communities in the US and the only "Age-Friendly" community in New Mexico.  Money Magazine named Carlsbad to its "Top 20 Retirement Towns in North America".  The International magazine Where to Retire featured Carlsbad as one of "the top ten tax-friendly towns in America".  Part of the pleasure of the land of enchantment is feeling at home here.  Discover the perfect blend of warm days, cool nights, low humidity, abundant sunshine and a Christian retirement village in River Bend Retirement Community.

What Makes Us Special

River Bend is the ONLY KNOWN retirement community in the country that refunds 100% of the Entry Fee, called a "Life Lease", less a small $2,500 administration fee upon sale of the residence.  Pricing ranges from $175,000 for the Patio Homes and in the mid-$200,000's  to low $300,000's for the single family residences.  Residents pay NO PROPERTY TAXES and NO HOMEOWNER'S LIABILITY INSURANCE, saving thousands of dollars each year.  The monthly maintenance fee is all that is paid, after the initial Life Lease is deposited, and covers water and sewer, all maintenance of the grounds and property, including use of the Community Center with indoor pool, spa and fitness facilities.  River Bend provides 75% financing of the Life Lease to qualified applicants.

A prime location along the Pecos River with charming walking and biking trails and located right next door to the Municipal Golf Course makes River Bend Retirement Community a unique and affordable place to call home for Seniors looking for an attractive lifestyle without the burden or expense of home maintenance.  Coupled with a multitude of outdoor activities surrounding Carlsbad, River Bend allows residents the opportunity to enjoy the BEST years of their lives and still live within an affordable budget.

Our Garden of Eden

A Little Slice of Heaven

In late summer of 2014 a section of unused land in the corner of River Bend Retirement Community was designated for use as a Community Garden.  The garden was planned and designed using Paul Gautsche's "Back to Eden" gardening method, a no-till method where wood chips are laid on top of compost and allowed to decompose all winter, preparing a rich soil beneath for spring planting.  Our Garden of Eden is all organic using no pesticides or chemicals.  We carefully selected non-GMO seeds from reliable seed companies and used heirloom varieties for many of the vegetables.  A group of residents volunteered and have worked relentlessly throughout the winter to plan and implement the garden, which was made possible with donations from the residents and the community.  We wanted to create not only fresh produce, but provide a beautiful garden in which to enjoy the early morning or late afternoon days swinging under the arbor or just relaxing around the bird bath in the herb garden watching the butterflies.

The produce is made available to the residents at River Bend and The Villages, both retirement communities owned and operated by Lakeview Christian Home.  The Garden of Eden is now in full production with fresh heirloom tomatoes, squash, beans, okra, cucumbers, carrots, radishes, cabbage, onions, kale and beautiful fresh herbs.  The produce is gathered by a team of volunteers from the retirement community and delivered to the community center for pickup each week.  For those residents who are home-bound, another team delivers the fresh produce to their door weekly.  We are so proud of our garden and the joy it has brought to our residents.
