St. Francis Family Medical Clinic and Covenant Family Health Care Center provide
valuable treatment to Carlsbad and Eddy County residents. Outpatient surgery is
also available through CMC and the Covenant Surgical Medical Center of Carlsbad.
Carlsbad attracts a large number of health care professionals. The earliest
doctors and dentists arrived in the pioneer town in the 1890s. Today, about 50

JCAHO-accredited, 138-bed acute care facility, originally constructed near the
Pecos River in 1977. CMC is affiliated with a national network of private
hospitals, which strengthens its financial resources without sacrificing a local
board of directors, genuine team spirit and a close-knit working environment.
Medical services include: general and vascular surgery, intensive and coronary
care, transitional care, cardiac rehabilitation, neonatal intensive care,
obstetrics, pediatrics, pulmonary function testing, renal dialysis, oncology and
extensive laboratory services.
Physical therapy, speech therapy, occupational therapy, sports medicine and
aquatic therapy are readily accessible. CMC provides full x-rays and the latest
diagnostic procedures, including ultrasounds, MRIs, CAT scans, isotope scanning
and a specialized mammography suite. The emergency room provides 24-hour
physician coverage. If necessary, ambulance and air transportation is available
to regional facilities in Albuquerque and Texas.
The Carlsbad Regional Radiation and Oncology Center addresses the acute needs of
cancer patients throughout Eddy County and neighboring areas. The facility
provides radiation treatment, follow-up services, cancer information, counseling
and a professional hotline.
The Carlsbad Mental Health Association was founded in 1985 as a service for
Carlsbad and southern Eddy County. The organization provides professional

services and employee assistance programs.
The Carlsbad Area Retarded Citizens Farm and Washington Ranch provides
assistance for children and adults facing developmental disabilities and delays.

lifestyle, based upon their own needs and desires.
The coalition focuses on infant and child intervention, job assistance,

well of physical, spiritual and emotional resilience for the terminally ill and
their families.
Carlsbad's animal community receives excellent attention at several locations.
Veterinarians assist their four-legged friends at the Carlsbad Animal Clinic and
the Animal Medical Center. Additionally, local businesses provide grooming,
kennels, pet food, treats, supplies and smaller critters.
